Can I use an Oceanside home as a short-term rental?

It depends on the property. Oceanside treats a stay of 30 consecutive days or less as a short-term rental, requires a Transient Occupancy Tax certificate and, in most cases, an STR Permit renewed each year, and has not allowed new non-hosted rentals outside the Coastal Zone since February 10, 2024. What does the Coastal Zone mean for a remodel in Oceanside?

Oceanside’s Local Coastal Program covers the city’s whole coastal zone, and certain projects there need a Coastal Permit. The city sorts coastal zone projects into five categories, from exempt work to projects that need a permit from the California Coastal Commission, and explains each one in its Coastal Permit Handbook. Which school districts serve Oceanside?

How do I get to and around Oceanside by road and rail?

Interstate 5 runs through Oceanside and meets State Routes 76 and 78 inside the city. At the Oceanside Transit Center you can catch the COASTER south to downtown San Diego, the SPRINTER east to Escondido, Metrolink trains toward Orange County and the Inland Empire, and Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner.
