Only within a capped permit program. Del Mar’s short-term rental ordinance, adopted in 2024 and certified by the California Coastal Commission on February 5, 2026, accommodates the rentals on the city’s existing registry and sets a citywide cap of 129 permits, so new owners cannot apply now and can only join the city’s waitlist. Is there a train station in Del Mar?

Not since 1995, when the Del Mar station closed and the Solana Beach station opened two miles north; COASTER and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains stop there. The tracks still run along the Del Mar bluffs, where SANDAG is stabilizing a 1.7-mile stretch from 15th Street to North Torrey Pines Road and studying a long-term move of the line inland.
